A Common Cybersecurity Misconception

May 6, 2021

What is the chance your business will be hit by cybercrime? Most people think cybercrime is not going to come after them because they are small. That is incorrect. Since March 2020, cybercrime is up by 72%. Ransomware demand is up by 42%. There is no such thing as too small.

It doesn’t matter if you are a plumber or a CPA. If you have a business you have something that hackers want. Anything from your personal information to client information to legal documents, you  name it. Small business is actually a prime target.

Most small businesses are not secure enough to protect themselves against ransomware or cyber attack. They don’t have the tools, expertise, or knowledge to discover a breach and take the steps to recover. Because of this, small business is targeted at a much higher rate.

How can you protect your business? Always be aware of your surroundings and what you are doing. Who are you sharing your information with? How are you sharing it? Make sure you have a good solid backup and a good set of rules. Passwords should have at least 14 characters and you should use a password manager.
