AI Terminology Decoded

The world is abuzz with talk of Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI is all around us, from Alexa and Siri to newer names like ChatGPT, Dall-E, and Jasper. These new concepts take things to the next level by enabling us to write articles, search the web with natural language, generate images, create code, and make our daily lives easier.

However, like most emerging technologies, AI often comes with some technical jargon before it becomes a part of our daily lives. As early PC users remember the “DOS prompt,” we may one day forget about terms like “defrag” on our phones.

Experts predict that these new AI tools will redefine how we interact with computers and machines and become the building blocks of a whole new world of tech. To help you understand some of the terms you’ll be hearing this year, let’s start with the basics:

A chatbot is an app that mimics human-to-human contact. For example, ChatGPT is a chatbot that responds to text or speech input much like a human.

Deep learning is a technique that imitates the human brain by learning from data, allowing AI tools to provide human-like responses based on real-world concepts and conversations.

Machine intelligence is the umbrella term for machine learning, deep learning, and conventional algorithms.

Natural Language Understanding (NLU) enables machines to understand the meaning of what we say, even if we use incorrect grammar or speak with different regional accents.

Weak AI is the most common form of AI in use today. It focuses on a single or small range of activities, such as writing or repurposing video content.

Strong AI aims to produce systems as intelligent and skilled as the human mind, but this is not yet a reality.

These are just a few terms in the vast world of AI, but you can expect to hear more about AI in the months and years to come. If you would like help understanding how AI can benefit your business, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
