This is something we have used many times over the past year. For example, a one-time password (OTP) is when you get a text message on your cell phone to verify your identity to log into a website, bank, portal, or dashboard.
This method has been around for 10 or 11 years now. But we are seeing a rise in botnets that can hijack your OTP. One way to mitigate this is to use an app instead of text. There are specialized apps that rotate the code every 30 seconds for this purpose. Using an app is much more secure.
If you get a text message with an OTP that you did not initiate, contact the vendor or bank and notify them of the attempt. Be aware of this cybercriminal activity. It is effortless to hijack your OTP. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about this or would like any recommendations.
