Continuing the tips and tricks series, let’s take a look at your network cables. Did you know the type of cable you use can make a massive difference in speed and reliability? There are several categories, from one (used back in the 1980s) through eight (now up for 2022 approval). Most in use currently are category five (5e for enhanced) or category six.
Each category has different speed and data capabilities. Category six can take you very close to the 10-gigabit speed. When you pull cables into a new office building, ensure you can get the best quality and the fastest rating cables possible. This is not a place to cut corners and try to save a few bucks. Again, if you’re building a new business or expanding a current network, use quality cables, at least category six.
We’re not just thinking of the internet. The cables are the pathways for data between the computers on your network. You’re looking at the difference between a four-lane and six-lane highway. The more lanes you have, the faster your data will flow between your servers and computers. This equates to less lag time in your work and happier employees.
That’s a tiny tip that can make a big difference in your office. If you need help with cables or installation, that’s what we’re here for. Schedule a call.
