Hardwire or Wireless: Which is better?

July 22, 2021

Quite often, we get asked if it is better to have a hardwired network connection or wireless. If we can hardwire a device on the network, we can guarantee broadband with no interference. Nothing can interfere with the signal, so you have consistent broadband in the machine. The rigid wired connection will give you the best availability of resources to your other users.

Another benefit for hardwired is security. It’s challenging to hijack a hardwired connection. A WI-FI connection can be easily spoofed, but it is challenging to mimic a hardwired connection.

WI-FI has a limited capacity, where it can serve like users. If you have too many users on a WI-FI, some of them will get a very minimal throughput from the WI-FI antenna. So, if you can, put some users over the hardwire connection.

It usually costs a little bit more when you design and set up your office to have hardwired connections. But it is worth every cent you put into it for the performance and the security. Schedule a call with us to discuss any questions you have about your network design.
