In October, I was surprised when an episode of the FBI show on CBS (season 4, episode 2) covered something I live and breathe every day: cybersecurity. In the episode, a children’s hospital was attacked by cybercriminals. The attack took down their whole system for 72 hours. This is something that can happen in real life!

Cybercrime and hackers target the infrastructure of the facility. This can happen in any industry: manufacturing, pipelines, tech, it doesn’t matter. The attack in the show affected all hospital systems, including surgery, oxygen, and monitoring systems. It prevented people from getting treatment and even cost some lives.

This is something you need to be aware of if you’re running a company with many employees and you have a vital infrastructure. Cybercrime is real, and cyber-attacks happen more often than you may think. In most cases, the aim is to extort money from the business. It is crucial to be prepared.

Always make sure you have up-to-date policies and procedures. Ensure you have what you can to protect your business from ransomware and cyber threats. Some things you can do include email monitoring for cyber and ransom agents, keeping all systems up to date, regular security scans, and system back-ups.

This is something we deal with regularly. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your cybersecurity system, schedule a call with us.
